Made with the linked treble crochet stitch and jumbo yarn, this blanket works up in just a few hours.
Super soft and chunky due to the jumbo yarn. So fast, all from one stitch that creates a 3” row. Identical on both sides for the perfect reversible throw! Drape it over a chair, sofa, or the end of a bed. This will add a pop of color and rich texture to your room.
If you’d like to try another stitch with the jumbo yarn, try this pattern. Any color combo or solid would work! This blanket has a stitch that adds a pretty, bumpy texture that reminds me of flower buds.
Materials used:
20mm crochet hook (15mm or larger would work. You would need to measure the first chain row to make it the length you like.)
Bernat Blanket Extra Jumbo 7 weight yarn . (Amazon affiliate link; I may make a small commission if you purchase from this link at no extra cost to you.)
I used Velveteal. 6 skeins.
This stitch works up so quickly in the jumbo yarn.
One row equals 3”!!
Chain Row
Ch 60 for a 65” long blanket. Mine is 48” wide with 16 rows. I had enough yarn left to make another row. This would add another 3”.
Row 1:
To give the first side edge a nicer finish, go into the back bump of each stitch. You may need to use a smaller hook for just the first row.
Put your hook in the 2nd chain from the hook and pull the yarn through. Go in the next chain and pull the yarn through. Again, go in the next chain and pull the yarn through. You will have 4 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Yarn over again and pull through the next 2 loops. Finally, yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops.
Linked treble crochet:
Put your hook in the first horizontal bar, pull the yarn through.
Put your hook in the next horizontal bar, pull the yarn through.
Put your hook in the next stitch, pull the yarn through.
4 loops on your hook.
Yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through the last 2 loops.
To make the stitch easier, you can work almost vertically instead of horizontally. (See video)
Continue making linked treble crochets across the row.
To tighten up the edge, in the last stitch, put your hook through the stitch and through the top of chain from the previous row. It helps to pull it in and keep things straighter.(57 stitches) Chain 2 (a slight difference from the traditional linked treble crochet due to the jumbo yarn) turn.
Row 2:
Put your hook in the 2nd chain. Pull the yarn through. Put your hook in the 1st chain. Pull your yarn through. Put your hook in the first stitch. Pull your yarn through. 4 loops on your hook. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through the last 2 loops.
Treble crochet across. In the last stitch, include the top of the turning chain in the stitch. (see video) Chain 2, then turn.
Be sure to count your stitches every few rows to make sure you still have 57.
Row 3:
Repeat row 2 until the blanket is as wide as you like. It grows by 3” with each row.
I made 16 rows for a 48” wide blanket.
Fasten off and you’re done. It doesn’t need a border, which is always nice when you’re looking for a quick and easy pattern.
