Crochet Quick and Easy Pretty in Purple Throw

Pretty in Purple

Crochet My Pretty in Purple Blanket; Easy 2 Row Repeat Pattern!

I used Bernat Blanket Yarn extra bulky 6 weight in the color Shadow Purple. This is a gorgeous, slightly dusty, purple. Bernat Blanket yarn is a super bulky, 6 weight yarn with a chenille feel. While it is a chunky yarn, the blanket is quite light in weight. So pretty in purple or any color!

My blanket is 44” long x 33” wide with the border, which is a nice baby blanket or lap throw.
I used almost 2 skeins of Shadow Purple and a just few yards of Almond in the border.

Materials needed:

I used 2 skeins (with just a little left over) of Bernat Blanket in Shadow Purple. I think I’m going to make one in stormy green as well. There are so many pretty colors to choose from!

A 12mm crochet hook helps to give the slip stitches the definition needed to make the raised texture. I tried different sized hooks, but anything smaller made the stitches too tight. The slip stitches are what make this such a nice pattern. I opted for a bigger hook and kept my stitches loose.

What’s the chain count?

For this blanket, Chain 80 or any number to make the blanket as long as you like. The blanket is worked vertically. Make your initial chain row is approximately twice as long as you want your blanket.

Keep your stitches and your turning chains loose.
Every 10 rows or so, fold your blanket over and make sure the edges are even. You can stretch one side if needed and make sure you didn’t add or delete a stitch.
It’s natural for your stitches to be tighter on one side. Keep your work centered in front of you to help keep your stitches even.

Row 1:

Skip the first chain.
In the second chain, make a slip stitch. It’s best to use the back bumps of the chains. Please watch the video tutorial if you aren’t sure how to access the back bumps.
Slip stitch in each chain across.
Chain 1, turn

Row 2:

Slip stitch in the back loop only of each stitch across. From now on, whenever you are working from the back side of the blanket (the tail from the initial chain is on the right) you will use the back loops only. In the last stitch, slip stitch in the back loop and pick up a loop from the turning chain.
Chain 1, turn

Row 3:

Slip stitch in the front loop only of the first stitch and in each stitch across. From now on, when you are working on the front side of the blanket (the tail from the initial chain is on your left) you will work in the front loops only
When you reach the last stitch of the row, slip stitch in the front loop and a loop from the turning chain of the previous row. It will look like a horizontal bar below your stitch. Pull it to the left, put your hook in the front loop only, and then in the loop you pulled over, and pull through to complete the slip stitch.
Chain 1, turn.

2 Row Repeat:
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the blanket is as wide as you like.
End on a row 3 so you’re on the right side (tail from the initial chain row is on your left)

If you want to make the border I did, continue.

Border:
Round 1:
Use a 10mm crochet hook.
After your chain 1 from the final row, place 3 sc in the same stitch.
Use the stitch at the end of each row, between the raised lines, make a sc in each going down the side.
When you get to the bottom, place 3 sc in the corner.

Sc across the bottom, which is the beginning row of the blanket.

When you reach the corner, place 3 sc in the corner.

Going up the next side, sc in the front loop of each stitch at the end of each row.

Place 3 sc in the corner.

Sc across the top.

When you reach the last sc, go into the back loop of the first stitch from the beginning of the round. Drop the purple yarn. Then, join with a slip stitch. Pick up the almond yarn, and pull through for a slip stitch. Chain 1, sc in the same stitch, back loop only.

Round 2:

3 Sc in the back loop of the corner stitch. Sc in the back loop of each stitch around, 1 sc, chain 1, 1 sc in each corner. (2nd of 3 corner sc from the previous round.)
When you reach the last sc, begin the slip stitches to join the first stitch from round! 2, can drop the almond yarn before completing. Pick up the purple yarn. Pull through to complete a slip stitch
Chain 1, sc in the back loop of each stitch around. Make 3 sc in each corner stitch.

When you reach the first sc, join with an invisible join. Watch the video if you need help.

That’s it!
