Crochet a Vintage White Scarf: Beautiful Stitch; So Easy!

The idea for this Pom Pom scarf came from an old sitcom.  I fell in love!  My version is a little different, but still reminds me of a vintage piece.

This is such a simple 2 row repeat stitch pattern that turns into a beautiful scarf.  The color and stitch pattern feel very vintage to me.  It’s also nice and neutral, so you can wear it with just about anything.

Placing pom poms on the ends is optional.  I love the little extra cute finish!

Enjoy making and using (or gifting) this super soft and cozy scarf!

You can make this into a blanket. Just continue the pattern until the blanket is as wide as you like. It would take a lot more yarn, but it would make a beautiful blanket.

Materials used for the Vintage Scarf:

Bernat Blanket super bulky 6 weight yarn in Vintage White (1 skein) Amazon Associate Link

10mm crochet hook

Stitches used:

Chain

Single crochet:

Put your hook through the desired stitch. Pull the yarn through. Yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.

*Linked double crochet:

For the first stitch of the row,

Place your hook in the first of the chain 2 from the end of the previous row.  Pull the yarn through.

Place your hook in the first stitch of the row.  Pull the yarn through.  Yarn over, pull through 2 loops.  Yarn over pull through 2 loops.

For the rest of the row, each stitch will be:

Put your hook through the horizontal bar made from the last stitch.  Pull the yarn through.

Place your hook in the next stitch.  Pull the yarn through.

Yarn over, pull through 2 loops.  Yarn over, pull through 2 loops.

It’s easier to find that horizontal bar after the first stitch.  I find it easier to work somewhat vertically up the row.

Half double crochet slip stitch: hdc sl st

Yarn over, put your hook through the desired stitch.

Pull the yarn through.  3 loops on your hook.

Pull the first loop through the last 2 loops.

Let’s begin!

Chain 120 (or any number of chains to make the scarf as long as you want.) I used 1 skein, which gave me a 7” wide x 74” long.  You can make it shorter if you want to make a border and still keep it at 1 skein.

Row 1

Single crochet in the back bump of the 2nd chain from the hook. Continue crocheting in the back bump of each chain across.  You can go into the front of the chain if you prefer, I just like the way the back loop looks

Ch 2, turn

Row 2

*Linked double crochet (see above) across.

Ch 1, turn

Row 3

Half double crochet slip stitch in the first stitch and in each stitch across.

Ch 2, turn

Row 4

Put your hook in the first of the 2 chains. Pull the yarn through. Complete a linked double crochet in the first stitch and in each stitch across.

Ch 1, turn

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until the scarf is as wide as you like.

End with a row of half double crochet slip stitches.

Ch 1, cut your yarn.  Pull through to tighten and weave in the tail end 2 or 3 times to secure.

I made 11 rows for a total of 7” wide with 1 skein.

Optional Pom poms:

I used a clover Pom Pom maker to make a  “ Pom Pom.

There are several videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to use this.  You can also make your own Pom Pom maker:

Attach the Pom poms (one on each end).  See the video below:

That’s it!  See how quickly that worked up!  I’ll be making a matching hat soon.  I’ll attach a link when the pattern and video are ready.
