Crochet Cat’s Cradle Blanket: Easy 2 Row Repeat (I made it for under $30!)

I love the little twist this stitch makes!  This yarn has beautiful, soft colors that gradually change, making it look striped.

It’s a 2 row repeat, just sc and hdc slip stitch, explained in the pattern and on the video.

I used Premier Puzzle bulky 5 weight yarn in the color Cat’s Cradle.

I used less than 5 skeins and at the time I’m writing this, it was still $5.99 a skein at Walmart!  So, less than $30 to make a blanket that’s

The optional border uses sc and dc-so easy!!

I also used a 10mm crochet hook.  This one from Tulip is so easy to work with.

Ch 120, or any number of chains to make your blanket as long as you like.  It’s worked vertically. My blanket is 55” long x 40” wide.

Row 1

Sc in the back bump of the 2nd chain from the hook and in the back bump of each chain across.

Turn, no chain

Row 2

Hdc slip stitch (yarn over, hook through stitch, 3 loops on your hook.  Pull the first loop through the last 2.)

Hdc slip stitch in the first stitch and in each stitch across.

Ch 1, turn.

Row 3

Sc in the first stitch and in each stitch across.

Turn, no chain

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the blanket is as wide as you like.  You should end on a sc row.

When the blanket is as wide as you like, (see my standard blanket measurements downloadable chart for reference, but I just make them as big as what feels right to me.)  This one is a good size for a crib, toddler bed or throw for your couch or at the end of a bed.

If you don’t want a border, just chain 1, cut your yarn, pull through to make a knot and weave in the ends.

If you want to make a border continue.  It’s very easy.

Border:

Round 1;

When you reach the last stitch in the final sc row, make 3 sc in the same stitch.

You’ll be working down the side now, with the right side (with the twists) facing you.

Sc in each stitch (the end of each row on the sides count as stitches.)

When you reach the last stitch, place 3 sc in the corner.

You’ll now be working across your beginning row at the bottom of the blanket.

Sc in each stitch across.

Place 3 sc in the last stitch.  Now you’ll be working up the side of the blanket.  Place a sc in each stitch (end of each row).

When you reach the last row, place 3 sc in the last stitch.

Working across the top of the blanket, place a sc in each stitch.

When you reach the corner stitch, sc, ch 1 and turn.

Round 2:

Slip stitch in the first stitch

Dc in the next.

Continue alternating sc and dc until you reach the corner.

When you reach a corner, place 3 stitches, depending on where you are in the pattern.  (It will either be sl st, dc, sl st, or dc, sl st and dc,depending on how many stitches you have) in the corner stitch.

Continue to alternate sl st and dc around, placing 3 stitches in each corner.

When you finish the last corner, slip stitch into the first stitch and fasten off.  I think this is a really simple and cute finishing touch for this blanket.

I hope you enjoy this pattern.
