I used 3 skeins (223 yards each) of Lion Brand Re-Spun Thick and Quick in Whipped Cream for color A and
9 skeins (87 yards each) of Lion Brand Mandala Thick and Quick in Stairwell for color B, both are super bulky 6 weight yarn.
You can use any super bulky 6 weight yarn or any weight yarn, you’ll just need to make your chain as wide as you want your blanket to be.
10mm crochet hook or whatever size works for the yarn you choose
Color A
Chain 123 (or any multiple of 2 plus one more at the end) This gave me 54”.
Row 1:
Sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, (I prefer to go in the back bump for a nicer edge)
Sc in each chain across
Ch 2, turn
Row 2:
Skip the first st,
*Sc in the first ch sp
Ch 1
Sc in the next ch sp*
Repeat from * to * across
In the last ch sp, start a sc, drop C(olor A, pick up Color B and complete the sc.
Ch 2 and turn.
Rows 3-4
Skip the first stitch, *sc in the first chain space.
Ch 1, skip a stitch, sc in the ch sp.*
Repeat from * to * across, finish with a sc in the final ch sp.
At the end of row 6, start a sc, drop Color B, pick up Color A, and complete the sc.
Ch 2, turn
Rows 5-6
Skip the first stitch, *sc in the chain sp, ch 1, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next ch sp*
Repeat from * to * across. Ch 2, turn
At the end of row 6, start a sc, drop Color A, pick up Color B, complete the sc.
Ch 2, turn.
Repeat rows 3-6 until the blanket is as wide (if you are working the pattern vertically) or long (if you are working the pattern horizontally) as you like.
The final 2 rows will be in color A.
At the end of the last row, fasten off.
I worked my pattern with the stripes going vertically and it ended up being 46” wide x 54” long. You can adjust the width and height if you would prefer to have your stripes going horizontally.
Optional chunky tassels: (make 4)
I used color A
Cut 3 pieces, each twice as long as what you’re using to wrap your yarn.
I used a book that was about 9.5” long and not very thick. I wrapped the yarn around 40 times.
Take the first piece of cut yarn and pull it under the front of the wrapped loops. Bring it to the top and tie it, with ends even.
Carefully cut the bottom loops, as even as possible, while still on whatever you used to measure.
Take the 2nd piece of yarn and tie it, with ends even, around the loops about an inch and a half or so from the top.
Wrap one end around and around until you have a small piece. Take a tapestry needle and thread the piece through the center to hide it. Do the same with the other end.
Do the same with the last piece of yarn about an inch or so down from the first wrap.
Straighten out your loops, fluff them out and cut the ends to even them up if necessary.
Tie one to each corner, knot 2 or 3 times. Weave in the ends.
That’s it!
I hope you enjoy this pattern.
