Stitches used:

Chain:  ch

Single crochet: sc

Herringbone double crochet: Hbdc (Yarn over, put your hook through the stitch, pull the yarn through, pull the first loop through the second loop, chain 1, yarn over, pull through the last 2 loops.)

Double crochet cluster:  dcc  (yarn over, put your hook through the stitch, pull the yarn through, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.  Yarn over, put your hook through the same stitch, pull the yarn through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops.  Yarn over, put your hook through the same stitch, pull the yarn through, yarn over, pull through all 4 loops.)

Before pulling through the last 2 loops, drop color A (you’ll be pulling it up the side, don’t cut)

Row 5

Sc in each stitch across.

Ch 1, turn

Row 6

Sc in the first 4 stitches.

*Double crochet cluster (dcc) in the next stitch.

Sc in the next 4 stitches.*

Repeat from * to * across, ending with 4 sc.

Before pulling through the last 2 loops of the last sc, drop color B (pull it up the side, don’t cut)

Pick up color A, pull through the last 2 loops.

Ch 1, turn

Row 7-10

Hbdc in each stitch across.

Ch 1, turn

Repeat rows 6-10 until you have 6 sections of color A and 5 sections of color B (the dotted stripes.) 34 rows total

Continue making rows of  hbdc, then you’ll start decreasing to make the back flap that will overlap the back panel, (like an envelope.)  The back panel will be all hbdc in color A, giving you the choice of 2 sides.

Row 35 until you run out of yarn on this skein.  I was able to get 7 more rows.  (This just gives you a nice piece to overlap the back panel to make a pocket which will enable you to take it off of the pillow form to wash or just to change it out with another cover.)

2 hbdc together in the first and last 2 stitches (yarn over, put your hook through the stitch, pull the yarn through, pull the first loop through the 2nd loop.  The rest of the stitches will be hbdc.

Ch 1, turn

Back panel:

Chain 65

Row 1

Hbdc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across.

Chain 1, turn

Row 2-29(I found this left me enough yarn to complete the seam without opening another skein and is  big enough to cover the pillow form.

Hbdc in each stitch across.

Chain 1, turn

At the end of row 29

Place the 2 panels with the right sides facing each other. This means the tails from the chain row will be on opposite ends, with the front panel tail to the left and the back panel tail to the right.

Sew or crochet with slip stitch or single crochet down the side, across the bottom and up the other side.  If you are crocheting the panels together, place a chain or an extra stitch at each corner to keep it from bunching up.

When you reach the top of the last side, fasten off and turn the cover right side out.

Place the pillow form inside the cover and drape the flap over the back panel.

You can use a button to fasten the flap, or a simple chain and 1 row of single crochet to fasten with a bow.

That’s it!  How easy was that?
