Crochet Easy Classic V-Stitch Throw/Blanket with a Very Easy Border

Bernat Forever Fleece Super Bulky 6 weight yarn (they come in a 2 pack)

Color A:  Blue Teal – 2 skeins

Color B: White Noise – 4 skeins (3 if you don’t make a border)

Color C:  Peppermint (a mix of blue teal, white and light teal) – 2 skeins

(1 skein makes 9 V-stitch rows) I have 14 rows of blue teal and 14 rows of peppermint.  I have 27 rows of white noise.

20 rows of V-stitches = 15”

My blanket is 54” long x 44” wide (with the border).  This is a nice size for a baby blanket or a throw.

I’m using it with the pattern going vertically.  If you want the V’s to be horizontal, make the blanket as wide as you want with the initial chain and make more rows to make it as long as you want.

8mm hook

Stitches Used:

Chain(ch)

Double crochet (dc)

Single crochet (sc)

Herringbone half double crochet (hhdc)

With Color A:

Chain  100 for a 50” (54” with border) wide blanket (or any multiple of 2) Make it a little wider than you would like your blanket.

I ended up turning it so the pattern is vertical because I decided I didn’t want it as long as I originally planned.  I wanted to be able to make it using only 2 skeins each of the blue teal and peppermint.  The white took more because I used it in between each row and for the border.

Row 1:

In the 2nd chain from the hook, sc. (I prefer to use the back bump)

Sc in each stitch across. Ch 1, turn

Row 2:

1 dc in the first 2 stitches.

*Skip 1 stitch.  2 dc in the next stitch, skip 1 stitch*

Repeat from * to * across, end with a dc in each of the last 2 stitches.  Begin the last dc, but don’t pull through the last 2 loops.  Drop color A, pick up color B, complete the dc.

Ch 1, (include the tail of the new color in the ch) turn

See video for how to hide the ends without having to weave them in.

Row 3:

Dc in the first 2 stitches.

2 dc in the V from the previous row and 2 dc in each V across.

Dc in the last 2 stitches, but drop color B before pulling through the last 2 loops.

Pick up color C, complete the dc.  Ch 1 (include the tail from the new color in the ch) turn

Row 4:

Dc in the first 2 stitches,

2 dc in each V across,

Dc in the last 2 stitches, but don’t pull through the last 2 loops of the last dc, drop color C, pick up color B and complete the dc.  Ch 1  (include the tail of the new color in the chain) turn

Keep repeating the pattern, color A, color B, color C, color B, until the blanket is as long (or wide if you are making it vertically like I did.)

I ended on the 14th row of peppermint.  Ch 1, turn,

Sc across.

If you’re not making a border, fasten off and you’re done!

If you are making a border, complete the last sc of the row with color B to prepare for the border.

Border:

With Color B (white), make 3 sc in the corner.

Sc in each stitch around with 3 sc in each corner.

When you reach the first corner, slip stitch into the first sc.  ch 1.

Herringbone half double crochet (yarn over, go into the stitch, pull the yarn through, pull the first loop through the second loop.  Yarn over, pull through the last 2 loops.)

Hhdc in each stitch around.

When you reach the first hhdc, join with a slip stitch.  Cut the yarn, leave a long tail and either fasten off or make an invisible join. (See video)

I hope you enjoy this pattern!
