Crochet Mini Bean Stitch Blanket

This blanket is crazy soft and has great texture thanks to the mini bean stitch.  I chose this over the bean stitch because this yarn is nice and thick and it saves yarn!

The mini bean stitch is a 1 row repeat pattern.  It works up quickly and this yarn is a pleasure to work with.  My husband couldn’t believe how fast I made it.

This would be a great gift or a keeper!  I’m going to use it at the end of my bed…or maybe in the living room…or my reading chair….oh, it’s going to be hard to choose!

I love the colors I used, but I can see this in any number of color combinations including holiday colors or team colors.

I like the straight edges of this blanket, giving it a tailored look that doesn’t need a border, but it would look cute with either tassels or Pom Pom’s in each corner.

I used:

Bernat Blanket super bulky 6 weight yarn

Color A:  Vintage White (3 skeins)

Color B:  Stormy Green  (1 skein)

Color C:  Terracotta Rose  (1 skein)

10 mm crochet hook

With color A:

Chain 86 (or any multiple of 2 to make the blanket as wide as you like)

Row 1

Sc in the back bump of the 2nd chain from the hook.

Sc in each back bump across.

Ch 1, turn

Row 2

Sc in the first stitch.

*Skip 1 stitch, bean stitch in the next stitch (put your hook in the stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over, go in the same stitch, pull yarn through, yarn over, (4 loops on hook now) yarn over and pull through all 4 loops, ch 1 to lock the stitch.*

Continue from * to * until the last 2 stitches.

Skip the next to last stitch.

Sc in the last stitch.

Ch 1, turn

Row 3

Sc in the first stitch.

Mini bean stitch in the left side of the first mini bean stitch.

Mini bean stitch in the left side of each bean stitch across.

Sc in the last stitch.

Ch 1, turn

From now on, you’ll repeat row 3.

When changing color, simply drop the current color at the end of the row before pulling through to complete the sc.

Pick up the new color and pull through the last 2 loops to complete the sc.  Watch my video tutorial to see how I take care of the tails without having to weave them in later.

Ch 1 and continue the pattern.

My pattern is:

4 rows of color A.  (Begin the count with the first row of bean stitches, so rows 2-5 to begin)

2 rows of color B

4 rows of color A

2 rows of color C

4 rows of color A

2 rows of color B

12 rows of color A

6 rows of color C

6 rows of color A

6 rows of color B

6 rows of color A

6 rows of color C

12 rows of color A

2 rows of color B

4 rows of color A

2 rows of color C

4 rows of color A

2 rows of color b

4 rows of color A

For the last row, ch 1, turn, skip the first stitch

Slip stitch in the back loop only in each stitch across.

Slip stitch in the full stitch for the final stitch.

Ch 1, cut your yarn and pull through.

Weave in the tail.

That’s it!

I hope you enjoyed this pattern!  Let me know if you made it, or if you need any help!
