Crochet Modern Farmhouse Plaid Pillow Cover (12”x 20”):

This matches my Modern Farmhouse Plaid blanket.

I made a sample for the video tutorial and didn’t want to waste the yarn, so I decided to turn it into a pillow cover.

Materials Used:

Bernat Forever Fleece Super Bulky 6 weight yarn

Color A:  White Noise

Color B:  Coal

Color C:  Chamomile

9mm crochet hook

Stitches:

Chain (ch)

Double crochet (dc)

Stacked single crochet (st sc)

Front post double crochet (fpdc)

Back post double crochet (bpdc)

Whip stitch (for sewing seams together)

Pillow front panel:

With color A, chain 31

Row 1:

Sc in the back bump of the 2nd chain from the hook and in the back bump of each chain across.

Ch 3, turn.

Rows 2-7:

Skip the first stitch.  *Dc in the next stitch.  Chain 1.  Skip the next stitch.*

Repeat from * to * across.

The last dc of the rows 3-7 will be in the 2nd chain of the turning chain from the previous row.

You will have 15 spaces between stitches.  Make sure to keep counting these spaces for each row.

At the end of row 7, begin the final dc, but drop color A before pulling through the last 2 loops.

Pick up color B, complete the dc, ch 3, turn.

Rows 7-12:

Repeat rows 2-7

At the end of row 12, begin the final dc, but drop color B before pulling through the last 2 loops.  Pick up color C and complete the dc.  Ch 3, turn

Rows 13-18:

Repeat rows 2-7

At the end of row 18, ch 1, cut your yarn, leaving a tail to weave in, pull the yarn through tightly to fasten off.

Chain 1

42 to make a chain for weaving in the plaid pattern.

Make 5 chains of each color.

Beginning with color A on the bottom right hand side of the panel, weave a chain in and out of the spaces between the dc’s (over and under the grid) from bottom to top.

Weave in the ends to secure.

In the next row, repeat, but alternate the pattern.  If you started the first row with under, start the second row with over.

Repeat this pattern, changing to color B, then color C.

Front panel complete.

Back panel.

I chose to use color A, but you can use any color you prefer.

Ch 31.

Row 1:

Dc in the back bump of the 2nd ch from the hook.

Dc in the back bump of each chain across.

Turn (no chain)

Row 2:

Stacked single crochet in the first stitch (sc, then place your hook in the left loop that sc, pull the yarn through, make another sc) It acts as a dc.

Fpdc in the next stitch.

Bpdc in the next.

Continue alternating fpdc and bpdc to the end of the row.

Turn.

Row 3:

St sc, bpdc in the next stitch, fpdc in the next.  Continue to alternate bpdc and fpdc across.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the panel is as long as the front panel.  Fasten off.

Place both panels together with the right sides facing out. Stitch all but one side together.

Place the pillow form inside.

You can either stitch the final sides together or weave a long piece of yarn through one open side and then turn and weave in through the other open side and tie the ends in a bow in the final corner.  Tuck the bow in and when you want to take the cover off, simply untie the bow and unlace one side to open up the seam.

That’s it!  You’re finished with your Modern Farmhouse Plaid Pillow Cover.

I hope you enjoyed the pattern.
