12” x 20” pillow form

Bernat Softee Chunky super bulky 6 weight yarn, Natural

10 mm hook

Darning needle

(I decided to go with a lumbar (rectangular) pillow for this cover because this stitch pattern uses a lot more yarn than the other 2.  If you want to make it the same size as the other 2 pillows, you’ll need to get another skein and make it 42” long.)

Ch  37

Row 1:

Dc in the back bump of the 2nd ch from the hook and in each back bump across.  At the end of the row, ch 1 and turn.

Row 2:

*Sc in the first 4 stitches – front post dc in the next 4 dc*

Repeat from * to * across, ending with 4 sc.  ch1, turn

Row 3:

Sc in each stitch across.  At the end of the row, ch 1, turn

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until your pillow cover measures about 24”-26” ending on a row 3 (sc row) from the pattern.

You’ll be making the button holes in the last 2 rows.

Sc into the first 9 stitches, ch 1,

Sc in the next 9 stitches, ch 1,

Sc in the next 9 stitches, ch 1,

Sc in the last 9 stitches.  Ch 1, turn

Last row: (optional, I ended on the previous row)

Sc in each stitch until you reach the ch space.  Sc into the space, sc in each stitch until the next ch space, sc into the space, sc into each stitch to the end of the row.

Fasten off and weave in your end.

Fold the pillow cover with right sides facing each -other, with the initial row end overlapping the last (buttonhole row)by about an inch or more.

Use a darning needle to sew the side seams together with a whip stitch, being careful that you overlap the same amount on each side, with the buttonhole edge on the inside.

Turn the pillow cover right side out.  Mark where the buttons will meet the button holes.  Sew the buttons on, leaving long tails to tie together and weave in so the button stays secure.

Place the 12” x 20” pillow form inside.  It will appear to be too big, but once you button it up, it’s nice and full.

Once you button it up, you’re done!
