Make this super easy, chunky granny square and turn it into a handy buttoned pouch.

Make the granny square larger and turn it into a purse by adding a quick handle made from a chain and a row of single or half double crochet stitches! So many possibilities.
To make the 8” chunky granny square you’ll need:
Super bulky 6 weight yarn. I used Bernat Softee Chunky.
Darning needle
Scissors
Lets’ get started!
Round 1:
Make a magic circle, ch 1 to lock it in. (Be sure to go in the circle and under the tail with all the stitches of round 1.)
Ch 4. *Make 3 dc and ch 2 in the circle* repeat from * to * 2 times.
Make 2 dc in the circle and join the first ch 4 in the 3rd ch with a slip stitch. Put your hook in the corner space (between the ch 4 and the first of 2 dc) and make another slip stitch. Ch 4
Round 2:
In the corner space, make 2 more dc.
*Dc in each of 3 dc from the previous round.
When you reach the corner, place 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the corner space.* th
Continue from * to * until you reach the first ch 4. Make a dc in the corner space and join the 3rd ch of the ch 4 with a slip stitch. Slip stitch in the corner sp and ch 4.
Round 3:
2 dc in the corner space.
*dc in each of the 7 dc from the previous round.
When you reach the corner, place 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the corner space.* Continue from * to * until you reach the first ch 4.
Make a dc in the corner space and join the 3rd ch of the ch 4 with a slip stitch. Slip stitch in the corner sp and ch 4.
Round 4:
2 dc in the corner space.
*dc in each of the 11 dc from the previous round.
2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the corner space* repeat from * to * until you reach the ch 4.
Dc in the corner space, join at the 3rd ch of the ch 4 with a slip stitch, slip stitch in the corner space. Finish with and invisible join or just fasten off. Weave in your ends.
Your flat granny square should measure about 8”
Fold 3 corners in (it will look like an envelope.) Sew the seams together with a mattress stitch.
Fold the top corner down to find the placement of your button. Sew your button on and you’re done!
