Pink Plush Ribbed Baby (or any size) Blanket

Bernat Blanket super bulky 6 weight yarn (or any chunky yarn)

Blush Pink  about 1 1/2 skeins

Vintage White  just a few yards for the border

10mm hook

Ch= chain

Sc= single crochet

Sc bl= single crochet back loop

Sl st= slip stitch

Sl st bl= slip stitch back loop

Ch 80 (or any number of chains to make the blanket as long as you like-the pattern is worked vertically)

My blanket is 38” long x 26” wide with 42 rows.

You can make it as long and wide as you like.  It won’t affect the pattern.

Row 1

Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and sc in each ch across.

Ch 1

Turn

Row 2

Sl st bl in the first stitch and in each stitch across.  Make sure to go in the back loop only of each stitch.  Keep your slip stitches on the loose side so you won’t have trouble working into them in the next row.

Ch 1

Turn

Row 3

Sc bl in the first stitch and in each stitch across.

Ch 1

Turn

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the blanket is as wide as you like.

Last row:

Finish on a sc row, but instead of using sc in the back loop, make extended single crochet in the back loop.

To make an extended single crochet, simply start like a singe crochet, but instead of pulling through the 2 loops, first chain 1, then yarn over and pull through the 2 loops.

Make the ex sc in each back loop across.

After the last stitch, we’ll start the border.

Border:

Switch to an 8mm hook

Ch 1

Starting across the top of the blanket, *find the first stitch (the end of the sc row), make an ex sc

Make an ex sc in the end of each row.

The sl st rows look like chains.  Go in the middle of the last chain.

The sc rows have stitches with 2 loops, go through both loops, not under.*

At the corner, make 3 ex sc in the same stitch

Across the side, what was the initial chain row, slip stitch in each chain.  Keep the stitches loose.

At the corner, make 3 ex sc in the same stitch

Going across the bottom, repeat from * to *

If you want to continue with one color, skip to the *

If you want to add another color:

Just before you reach the corner stitch at the side of the blanket, begin the last stitch, but don’t pull through the last 2 loops.  Drop your original color yarn, cut and leave a long tail.

Pick up the next color and pull through the last 2 loops.

*Ch 1

Back post single crochet in the corner stitch (Place your hook in the  next stitch from behind the stitch, around the post of the stitch from the previous row.  Pull the yarn through, pushing the post to the back. Yarn over and complete a sc by pulling the yarn through the 2 loops on your hook.)

Keep your stitches loose.

Back post single crochet in each stitch around.  (Place your hook in the  next stitch from behind and go around the stitch-this is the post- push it back with your hook.  Your hook will be in front of the post.  Push your hook under the next stitch. Pull the yarn through and complete the sc.)

At each corner chain 1 or 2, depending on how tight your stitches are.

Join to the first single crochet of the round and fasten off with an invisible join. (Watch the video tutorial if you are unsure of how to make an invisible join.)
