Simple Squares Pillow Cover

Make this fast and easy pillow cover using Bernat Forever Fleece super bulky 6 weight yarn in White Noise (1 skein) and Balsam (about 1/2 skein)

Either a 16” or 18” square pillow form.

10mm crochet hook

6 up to 8mm crochet hook for the last row and for joining the squares and seaming.

Slip stitch (sl st)

Half double crochet (hdc)

For each square (2 of each color)

Chain 21

Row 1

Slip stitch into the 2nd chain from the hook (I prefer to use the back bump, but you can use the front of the chain if you prefer)

Hdc in the next stitch

Continue alternating sl st and hdc across, ending with a hdc.

Ch 1, turn

Row 2

Sl st into the first stitch, which will be the last hdc from the previous row.

Hdc into the next stitch, which will be the sl st from the previous row.

Continue alternating those stitches across, ending with a hdc.

Rows 3-21

Repeat row 2

Every row will begin with a slip stitch and end with a hdc.

Fasten off.

Join the squares by sewing them with yarn and a large eye needle or any square join.  I used the zig zag join.  You can watch the video to learn this.

Back panel 1

Chain 41

Repeat the pattern for the squares, making 29 rows.  Fasten off.

Back panel 2

Chain 41

Repeat the pattern for the squares, making 18 rows (a little longer than I made in the video)

The last row will be all sc (I switched to a smaller hook) for 20 stitches, chain 3 (for the button loop), sl st into the same stitch, then sc in the remaining stitches.  Fasten off.

To make it easier to seam (I didn’t do this because I was running low on yarn since I used some in another project) single crochet around each edge before joining the seams.

Place the squares with the right side facing you.

Place the back panels with the longer panel overlapping the shorter panel.

Join the yarn in any corner.  Slip stitch through the front and back all along the edges.  When you reach the part where the panels overlap, you’ll have 3 layers to stitch through.  You may want to use stitch markers to keep the layers lined up and make sure you overlap the same number of rows on each side.

When you reach the beginning corner, fasten off.

Turn the pillow cover right side out and fasten a button in line with the button loop.

That’s it!  I hope you enjoyed this pattern!
