Are Crochet Hooks Hard for You to Use for Long Periods of Time? Try Using Makeup Sponges to Help You Crochet Comfortably.
While I can usually crochet for long periods of time with hooks that are 4mm and larger, arthritis makes it difficult for me to comfortably use smaller hooks. I enjoy trying lots of different types of crochet patterns and yarns, including crochet threads.
Not wanting to give up on using smaller hooks, I decided to try adapting the hooks to make them more comfortable.
I found that using inexpensive makeup sponges worked amazingly well!
Using a darning needle, I made a hole through each sponge to make it easier to push the hook through the center of each sponge.
I was pleasantly surprised at the difference the sponges made on the comfort of using the smaller hooks. Now I’m able to use the hooks for longer periods without getting cramps in my hands.
I only wish I had tried this sooner!
If you also have difficulty using smaller crochet hooks, try using the makeup sponges to alleviate any discomfort! They come in many different shapes and sizes.
I’ve included a video of my first attempt at using the makeup sponges. See what you think. Let me know if this works for you, or if you have any suggestions for making crochet hooks more comfortable to use.
