Crochet Easy Fire and Rain Blanket: Warm and Cozy

Soft and thick, like lambs wool, but this Fire and Rain blanket is even better because it’s faux.

I call it Fire and Rain. The colors remind me of sitting in front of a fire on a dark, rainy day.  Add a cup of hot tea and a good book and that’s pretty perfect!

My Fire and Rain blanket measures 59” long by 45” wide (before the fringe). This is a little narrower than a standard throw size, which is 60” long by 50” wide.  Just add more stripes to make it wider. The fringe adds 3” on each end.

Made lengthwise, you’ll end up with long stripes.  It’s a great size to keep you warm and cozy.  The sheepy yarn makes it incredibly soft.

Adjust the size by measuring your initial foundation chain.  My 112 foundation half double crochets row measures.  My foundation chain measured 65”, but did shrink to 60” due to the stitches.

1 skein = about 8 rows

If you make your blanket shorter or narrower, you can save yarn.  If you leave off one of the set of 4 rows of Rusty Clay, you will need 3 skeins, otherwise you will need part of a 4th skein.

Materials used to make the Fire and Rain blanket:

Bernat Sheepy Yarn, super bulky 6 (Amazon affiliate link: I may make a small commission)

Color A: Black Bear – 2 skeins

Color B: Rusty Clay – 3 + skeins

Color C: Vapor Gray – 2 skeins

You may need part of another skein of the black bear and vapor gray if you make the fringe border. I needed part of a 3rd skein to complete the border on the Fire and Rain blanket.

Foundation Half Double Crochet Chain 112 (or any number of-chains to achieve the length you want)- see the video. I don’t normally make a foundation row like this, but it was very difficult for me to find the chains of a chain row. If you prefer to make a chain row, start by making any number of chains. Make it as long as you want. Then, come back into the second chain from the hook. Make a half double crochet in that chain and in each chain across.

Scroll past the video to see the rest of pattern.

Once you have the foundation hdc row done, the rest of the blanket is so easy!

Row 2

Turn, half double crochet in each space between stitches until the end of the row.

Chain 1, turn.

At the end of row 2, begin a half double crochet. Drop Color A. Pick up Color B. Complete the half double crochet by pulling the yarn through the 3 loops on your hook.

  Chain 1, turn

For the rest of the blanket, follow my pattern (above).

At the end of the rows that require a color change, begin a half double crochet. Drop the color you are working with. Pick up the next color and complete the half double crochet.

Try this pocket scarf pattern, also made with Bernat Sheepy yarn:

I hope you try using this yarn. Once you get used to feeling for the stitches, it becomes quite easy to work with. The stitches are hard to see.
