Crochet Simple Vintage Look Chevron Blanket

Crochet this easy chevron blanket made with Premier Yarn Cat’s Cradle.

This beautiful blanket pattern includes instructions to make the adorable, crocheted pom pom border.

While this may look complicated, I believe even beginners will enjoy making this vintage look chevron blanket.  It’s made with a bulky 5 weight yarn, which is so easy to work with.  This is the perfect yarn weight; not too thin, not too thick- the Goldilocks of yarn!

Premier Puzzle Yarn ranks as one of my favorites. The subtle colors seem to magically form stripes without any abrupt color changes. With no ends to weave in, like you normally have when creating stripes, the blanket works up in no time! Putting this project down was difficult because I loved seeing which colors were coming up next.

If you would prefer to make a chevron blanket in super bulky 6 weight yarn, try this pattern:

Materials needed:

5 skeins of Premier Yarn Cat’s Cradle bulky 5 weight yarn

8mm crochet hook

6mm crochet hook for the border

Chain a multiple of 12 plus 2 to make the blanket as wide as you want.  I chained 122  for a 36” wide blanket.

Row 1:

Place 2 single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook.

*Single crochet in the next 4 chains.

Put your hook in the next chain, pull the yarn through, skip the next chain, put your hook through the next chain, pull the yarn through, yarn over and pull through 3 loops (decrease)

Sc in the next 4 chains

3 sc in the next chain (increase)*

Repeat from * to * across.

In the last chain, place 2 sc.

Chain 1, turn

Row 2:

2 sc in the first stitch.

*Sc in the next 4 stitches.

Put your hook in the next chain, pull the yarn through, skip the next chain, put your hook through the next chain, pull the yarn through, yarn over and pull through 3 loops (decrease)

Sc in the next 4 stitches.

3 sc in the next stitch (the middle of the 3 sc from the previous row)(increase)

Sc in the next 4 stitches.*

Repeat from * to * across

2 sc in the last stitch.

Chain 1, turn

Repeat row 2 until the blanket is as long as you want.

Last rows if you want to make a border.

I used a 6.5mm hook, a 6mm would work great also.

On wrong side(beginning chain tail on your right)

*Chain 4

Yarn over, Put your hook in the 2nd chain from the hook.

Yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops only

Yarn over, Put your hook in the next chain, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops only.

Yarn over, Put your hook in the next chain, (closest to the stitch) pull the yarn through, yarn over, pull through all 4 loops.

Slip stitch in the same stitch.

Sc in the next 4 stitches

Decrease

Sc in the next 4 stitches

Slip stitch, then

Repeat from * to *

Finish with a Pom Pom stitch in the last stitch.

fasten off and weave in the end.

Now, go back to the first row.  Turn your blanket so the tail from the original chain is now on your left.

Join the yarn in the first stitch with a slip knot, pull through and make a slip stitch.  Make a sc in the same stitch.

Sc in the next 4 stitches.  You’re working upside down, meaning what now look like peaks are actually the valleys from the first row.

In the 6th stitch, make the Pom Pom stitch, and now just follow the rest of the pattern for the last row.
