How to Make: Back Loop Only Single Crochet

single crochet back loop only

The back loop only single crochet stitch is popular in making borders, hats and cuffs.

It’s a nice stretchy stitch that also adds some texture. It can be used as the only stitch in an entire blanket or sweater. Because of its stretch, the back loop only single crochet is often used as the border. I especially love the look of this border on my sweaters. I’ve used this to make a border on many of my baby blankets. The border gives everything you use it on a nice, finished look.

See a single crochet back loop only border here and another with rounded edges here. Both look great!

I love to use the back loop only single crochet stitch as a border for blankets. It makes the blanket feel like a cozy sweater! Watch the video below to see how to make this ribbed border with squared edges.

I retired after teaching for 36 years. Most of my experience is in Early Childhood Special Education. I also taught 3rd and 4th grade and was a K-12 teacher for visually impaired students. Now I live in the country with my husband, a retired aerospace engineer, and our 2 Black Russian Terriers, Zhanna and Misha. We are very fortunate that our son and daughter-in-law live right next door! I love to crochet and enjoy sharing my projects with anyone who is interested! Debi
