I love the color combination of this baby blanket! The Bernat Blanket yarns are lusciously soft.
They come in many colors, so you have lots of choices. If you can’t find what you like in the Bernat Blanket, try the Bernat Baby Blanket. It’s also a super bulky 6 weight and super soft as well!
What colors will you use? Choosing the colors for a project is often the most difficult part for me.
For this baby blanket I used:
Bernat Blanket super bulky 6 weight yarn
Color A: Pink Dust
Color B: Bernat Baby Blanket in Vanilla or Bernat Blanket in Vintage White
10mm crochet hook
Let’s begin!
Chain 70 (for a 40“ long blanket before the border). Each chain is about 1/2”. Use that as a guide. Make it as long as you like.
You might prefer to make this blanket horizontally instead. Use the initial chain row as your width instead of length.
Row 1:
First, place a single crochet in the second chain from the hook.
Then, single crochet in each chain across.
At the end of the row, chain 1 and turn your work.
Rows 2-17 (about 12” at the end of row 17)
Begin the baby blanket with a single crochet in the back loop only of the first stitch.
Next, make a linked single crochet back loop only.
To do this, put your hook in the same stitch you just finished.
Pull the yarn through.
Now, put your hook in the next stitch (back loop only) and pull the yarn through.
Finally, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.
After the last linked single crochet of the row, chain 1 and turn your work.
At the end of row 17, you’ll change colors.
To do this, begin the last linked single crochet. Don’t pull the yarn through the last 3 loops.
Now, drop color A, leaving about a 3” tail to weave in. Next, pick up color B and put a loop around your hook. Pull it through the 3 loops.
Finally, chain 1 and turn your work.
Rows 18-33
Repeat row 2
At the end of row 33, drop color B. pick up color A. Follow the instructions for changing colors.
Rows 34-49
Repeat row 2
Row 50
Single crochet in the back loop only across.
When you reach the end of the row, place 4 single crochet in the last stitch.
Edges of your baby blanket:
Work a single crochet at the end of each row down the side edge.
At the end of the edge, place 4 single crochet in the last stitch and turn. You’ll be working in the original chain row. Single crochet in each stitch across.
When reach the last stitch, place 4 single crochet in the same stitch.
Turn to work up the last edge. Place a single crochet at the end of each row. When you reach the last stitch, place 4 single crochet in the same stitch.
Join the first single crochet with a sip stitch and chain 1.
Turn your blanket so you’re working down the side you just completed.
Now you’ll be making a twisted single crochet in each stitch around. Here’s another blanket with a twisted single crochet border.
To do this, place your hook in the next stitch. Pull the yarn through. Twist your hook counterclockwise. Yarn over and pull the yarn through the loops on your hook. If they are tight, move them further on your hook to loosen them a bit.
After you make the last twisted single crochet stitch of the border, cut your yarn and pull the tail through. Thread the tail through a tapestry needle. Weave the tail through the back of the next stitch and through some loops 2 or 3 times to fasten.
Weave in any loose ends and you’re done!
Let me know if you made this!
