I made this baby blanket as a gift for my husband’s great nephew, Emery. Fast, easy and just so cozy for a baby.
Crochet this fast and easy baby blanket (or any size, just add more squares) using Bernat Forever Fleece super bulky 6 weight yarn. Incredibly soft and cushy, it’s perfect for a floor time/tummy blanket to keep baby safe and comfy.
Materials Used:
Bernat Forever Fleece super bulky 6 weight yarn
in White Noise (1 skein) and Balsam (about 1/2 skein)
10mm crochet hook
6mm up to 8mm crochet hook for the last row and for joining the squares.
Slip stitch (sl st)
Half double crochet (hdc)
I made 5 squares of White Noise and 4 of Balsam, but you can make it bigger if you like. This is a good size for a newborn and great for floor/tummy time!
Chain 21
Row 1
Slip stitch into the 2nd chain from the hook (I prefer to use the back bump, but you can use the front of the chain if you prefer)
Hdc in the next stitch
Continue alternating sl st and hdc across, ending with a hdc.
Ch 1, turn
Row 2
Sl st into the first stitch, which will be the last hdc from the previous row.
Hdc into the next stitch, which will be the sl st from the previous row.
Continue alternating those stitches across, ending with a hdc.
Rows 3-21
Repeat row 2
Every row will begin with a slip stitch and end with a hdc.
Fasten off.
I used a zig zag join, (see the video) but you can use any join or just sew them together.
Border:
With White Noise, join in any corner. Chain 2
Make 4 dc in the corner.
Dc in each stitch or end of each row.
4 dc in each corner.
When you reach the first dc, join with a slip stitch.
Chain 2
Do not turn
Round 2-4 (or however wide you want the border)
Alternate fpdc and bpdc around.
When you reach the first fpdc, make a fpdc in that stitch and make bpdc in the next bpdc. Continue alternating around.
I made one row of slip stitches in Balsam to complete the border, but it’s not necessary.
I made the E in the middle by surface crocheting with 2 strands of Balsam. See the video if you don’t know how. It’s very easy!!
That’s it! I hope you enjoyed this pattern!
